I would imagine that the upcoming USMCA review/dance macabre would feature the U.S. wanting to inject a bunch of conditions related to China. I hope (maybe in vain?) that Mexico will muster the vision necessary to meet what could become a contentious renegotiation - or at least a renegotiation that could end up favoring U.S. interests more than anyone else's (what else is new?)

Strangely enough, there are many anti-China provisions in minimum local content rules (we can call it regional protectionism) already. The issue, as is often the case in Mx, is that some industrialists are disguising Chinese made parts and goods as local goods—hurting US AND Mx producers. People I spoke to are very happy with how USMCA's enforcement has worked, but the grumblings I've heard behind the scenes make me wonder...
