President Claudia Sheinbaum put on a show yesterday as she requested Mexicans descend on Mexico City’s central square to celebrate the delay of Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Many might have asked, why go, if the initial intention was to make a big deal out of Mexico’s retaliation? Call it political war games.

The Mexican government was never going to let the event go to waste or unattended. The Mexico Political Economist stood in the central plaza, known as el Zócalo, alongside tens of thousands of people. But the great majority were not everyday citizens.
