MXPE’s first book is out!
How a book started on this very newsletter.
A bit of a change of pace this week to announce that editor-in-chief of The Mexico Political Economist Alex González Ormerod’s book is out now!
La derecha no existe (pero ahí está) is a book (in Spanish) on the recent past, the turbulent present, and the uncertain future of Mexico’s right-wing politics.
The book’s origins lie in this very newsletter.
On November 26th 2024, we published a piece called Where the right goes wrong and it caught the attention of Siglo XXI, a publishing house. Almost a year later to the day, the book is out. And not a moment too soon, as protests and a rising right-wing opposition stir in Mexico.
Hopefully this book will be able to contextualise and guide your thoughts on what’s going on and what is to come with movements like Eduardo Verástegui’s Movimiento Viva México, old political parties like the PAN, and insurgent figures like Ricardo Salinas Pliego.
We are currently working to get this published in English for those who aren’t able to read it in Spanish (if you’re a US book publisher, do reach out!). For those of you who can, the best way to get your hands on it immediately is directly on Siglo XXI’s site and very soon at your nearest book shop.
We will also be organising a series of upcoming presentations starting with the Guadalajara International Book Fair at the Fondo de Cultura Económica stand on December 2nd at 8pm. It will be wonderful to meet as many of you as possible there and then. And if you can’t make it, watch this space, as there will be many other presentations around Mexico City, Mexico, and even in the US.
If you’d like to organise a book presentation in your city or institution, reach out to us at alex@mxpe.org.
That’s all for today but we’ll be back with our usual analysis of Mexico’s politics, economy, and business tomorrow!
